Betfred Championship Preview | Round 11

The Betfred Championship returns after the hiatus due to the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Semi-Final. Here is a look at what’s set to go down in Round 11.

Action gets underway on Friday night as Craig Lingard’s Sheffield Eagles face Hunslet.

The Eagles made a slow start to 2025, but wins in Round 8 and 10 will give hope that they have turned a corner.

In the last outing, despite trailing at the break, they came from behind to defeat London Broncos 22-20 thanks to tries from Oliver Roberts, Eddie Battye and Tyler Dickinson.

Hunslet may sit at the foot of the Betfred Championship table, however, they have shown fight since being promoted. Their sole victory came during Round Seven, with an away success at Batley.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2015.

On Saturday, the only game of the day takes place in France as top of the table Toulouse host Barrow Raiders.

With seven wins from nine matches, Sylvain Houles’ side lead the way on points difference.

Olympique are unbeaten at home in 2025, with their only blemishes coming on the road at Widnes in the opening round and away at Doncaster in Round five.

Outside back, Benjamin Laguerre is the top scorer for Toulouse scoring 10 tries in the Betfred Championship but failed to score in the victory over Oldham.

Olympique boast an impressive record against Barrow, winning their last 11 meetings.

Bradford Bulls will be looking to bounce back from their AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Semi-Final defeat when they host Widnes Vikings on Sunday.

Brian Noble’s side looked set for a half-time lead, but two quick tries changed the complexion of the tie.

Despite finishing above the Vikings for the past two season, Bradford have failed to beat Widnes in four meetings (three Betfred Championship and one Betfred Challenge Cup).

With seven wins this season, the Bulls are third and trail top spot Toulouse just on points difference.

Sunday could be a memorable day for Vikings’ star Jack Owens. Owens is just one point away from reaching 1000 for the club. In two stints at the club, the back has scored 84 tries and kicked over 300 goals in 194 appearances.

Widnes have had a mixed season so far with four wins and defeats plus a draw in their nine matches.

Doncaster will host London Broncos in South Yorkshire, with the Dons coming off the back of three consecutive defeats. The meeting will be the first in the league for 10 years, since then the sides have met once in the 2023 Betfred Challenge Cup.

Suaia Matagi is in line to make his 250th career appearance. The former New Zealand and Samoan international has made 37 appearances in his two years at the Dons.

Meanwhile, Sam Smeaton could make his 100th appearance for the club. Smeaton made his debut against Thornhill Tro

jans in the Challenge Cup back in 2020.

London have won just two games this season, however, they have been narrowly defeated a couple of times, as well as losing in the final minute at home to Batley.

Their last meeting, they had a half-time lead thanks to two tries from on-loan Wigan young star, Jack Farrimond.

The Broncos are yet to win away from home in the Betfred Championship this season.

In recent years, Featherstone Rovers and Batley Bulldogs have had some memorable clashes, including the 2022 Championship Semi-Final which saw Batley progress.

Rovers will come into the clash off the back of booking their place at Wembley. A dominant 40-14 away success at Oldham saw them move into the 1895 Cup Final.

Full-back Caleb Aekins proved a handful, scoring two tries and helped to pull the strings.

Since that 2022 defeat, Rovers have won all league meetings and Paul Cooke will be hoping his side can extend that sequence.

Will Jubb and Jordan Williams could make milestone career appearances. Jubb is one away from 200, meanwhile Williams could reach 150. Both have made 15 appearances since joining the club ahead of the season starting.

Batley have six points to their name this season with two wins and two draws. However, they have suffered three heavy defeats this season to Halifax, Sheffield and most recently Bradford.

The Bulldogs have shown in the past that they are able to grind out results, but can they do it on Sunday?

Sean Long will be hoping for a response as Oldham return to Betfred Championship action.

Long’s side was comfortably defeated in the 1895 Cup semi last weekend, but Halifax look tough opposition.

The Roughyeds was without key personnel last week, with many of which expected to be remain sidelined for this clash.

Halifax Panthers got off to a red hot start this season with six consecutive wins to start the season. However, Kyle Eastmond’s side have lost three of the last four matches including to the two sides above them.
